science expo
bringing science to schools
Hi, I'm Andrea...
I graduated from Massey University (Palmerston North) with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science. I worked in medical laboratories for nearly 15 years (in NZ & the UK) before my first child was born. I am now a mother of two boys, in Year 8 and 5.

Science has always been an interest of mine. In the last few years, an interest in education has also developed. Over the past 5 years, I have volunteered at Willowbank school giving science-based talks to several classes. I have also been a Parent Reading Programme volunteer for 4 years. In 2019, I came up with a Science Expo idea that would expose students to a range of science fields with practical, hands-on experiences. After testing out the Expo at Willowbank school (over 500 Year 3 to 6 students), the feedback was so positive, I decided I should offer my services to other schools.

During the COVID-19 level 4 lock down, I decided to create another website "Science with Ms Lun" with science activities that could be done at home with household ingredients and equipment. Willowbank School used this website as part of their Connected Learning (Learning from home) website.
The website has evolved to include more scientific information and new activities have been added too.
This summer, I started tagging my Monarch butterflies. Check it out by clicking on the image below to go to the website...
In July 2021, I became the Branch Manager of the South Auckland House of Science. This almost nationwide initiative supports the teaching of science with comprehensive science kits that are aligned with the National Curriculum.
If your school is interested in these kits, please email me at southauckland@houseofscience.nz
